Frances Gootman (frankie)
I'm an artist. My brain won't let me be anything else, because it wants to be too many things at once.

I have distinct memories from my childhood of running excitedly down the street to visit my best friend. Passing through neighbors’ yards under large trees where I would often find an unusual twig, cone or large leaf. I’d eagerly collect these odd findings of tree debris and present them to my friend as a gift. These gifts were generally met with a strange look and hesitant thanks, but this never discouraged my next presentation of organic findings. This Magpie behavior has continued through my adulthood. My findings are still met with unease and confusion or indifference at times.

To reorganize is to set out on a journey of disruption, untangling, categorizing, prioritizing sorting, and labeling. The synthesis of this process being a logical, navigable and orderly structure, but there’s always a stage in this process when we succumb to an even greater state of disorganization than that with which we began. The creative process is no different. Embarking on a creative work is a reorganization of thought.
